We have finally worked out all the details of the contest and are ready to officially open it.
Theme: Extreme Expressions![]()
This contest will be open to all members of deviantART, open to all mediums and genres.
We have had several people ask if they could enter more than once so we have altered the rules to allow no more than 3 entry's per dA account.![]()
Each entry must clearly convey an extreme expression. For example, not simply sad but overcome with sadness. Not just love but a consuming passionate love... Any emotion or expression can be used but it must be taken to the EXTREME. Anyone that chooses to enter with a Literature entry will be faced with creating an extreme visual image through their words. And with the Lit entries, the artists comment will be extremely important.
The background of images must compliment the emotion/expression itself. For example if you are creating an expressive costume for Dumbo, the background should have some relation to Disney. If you are using sadness as the basis for your entry, you could have a family overcome by sadness and their house burning in the background. These are just examples to give you an idea of what we are looking for.
The artists comment MUST contain information about the entry; For instance, if you take a picture that captures what you are using as your entry, in the artists comments, you should give some information on the camera, settings, what led up to the photograph, the weather, any special lighting situation or filters.
The subject matter is the easy part, it is the artists comments that will be a challenge. We are asking for you to include some of the thought process that went into whatever your entry may be. The idea behind Artistic Maneuvers is to help educate and grow. If we do not share our ideas and some of our techniques in what we are creating, we are not really helping the viewer fully understand what went into whatever art we have created.
Some of the guidelines will be pretty strict but remember the level of talent is not the main basis for this contest, the most important aspect is creativity and the process that took you there.
Some of the things that you should keep in mind when creating your image and putting together the artists comments:
Digital Artists: What program do you use, what settings did you use for the background, the overlays, any filters...You get the idea, As much information as you can possibly include about the creation of the image. You might also want to include any information on what led you to create it, why you used certain elements and as always remember to give credit to any resource providers.
Photographers: What kind of camera, indoor or outdoor lighting, filters, weather (if outside), situation around you, and anything that you feel may help another photographer capture a worthwhile image. If you do any post-processing, keep it minimal and explain that as well.
Traditional Artists: Your tools, lighting, any shading techniques, canvas, paper whatever. Remember to include as much information as possible.
Film and Animation: As much technical information as possible should be included, programs used, who the subjects were, idea behind it.
Artisan Crafts: There are many different mediums that fall under this so please make sure to include information about what went into the creation as well as the process of creating it.
All others not listed, just remember to include as much technical information as possible, what program or programs you used, what settings you may have used, etc. And if you are a colorist, part of your artists comment should include something from the lineartist about what went into his/her part of the entry.
Any further questions or comments, please leave a comment here with your question so that others can have the information as well. This journal will remain open until the contest closes.
This is the prize list to date. We do hope that there will be more before the deadline but we are so thankful for all that have come in.

HUGS
=january77 has posted the winners for the Photomanipulation Contest. There were many great entries that we are sure it was hard to pick the winners. We have featured all the winners in our Affiliate Features and News section. The top three are being featured here as well. Congratulations to all the winners and job well done to all that entered.
The unity between each of us is something we tend to overlook. We have spent so much time creating divisions that we have forgotten that we are all essentially the same. We are all creative minds with a passion for beauty in art, no matter the form. We have divided ourselves into genres and in doing that we have created barriers within what should be a united community. We are artists and as such we should come together and teach each other. Together we can be stronger than we could ever be across the lines we have created. Our own need to class not only ourselves but each other based on what we are supersedes our perception of what we are. If we all look beyond the labels and look deeply at who we are, we will find that even with the cultural differences we are all the same. We all belong to one elite group, we are all human.
There are many secondary differences that are of little importance when you look at the big picture. We need to learn from one another, share with one another and teach one another. We need to past the what of the people around us and focus on the who. Through this unity, we will find strength compassion and sympathy. We will be wiser and stronger as a creative entity than we could ever be as a lone mind in a vast sea of minds.
The artist behind our logo wrote an essay about unity of nations. I was inspired by it to write this statement. To read his whole essay, please go here [link]
And with this statement, we would like to welcome you to the world of Artistic Maneuvers. To become a part of the unity movement or to contribute to the gallery please follow the guidelines.
The creative mind behind our icon and ID is Peter Patrick Barreda and is used with permission of the artist. This mandala can be found amongst many other beautiful works at mandala Zone A very special thank you to him for allowing us to use his piece of art in representing Artistic Maneuvers. On April 4, we received an email from Mr Barreda stating that he had decided to alter his original work and make it more geared towards us. So now we have the "Unitas Eye" . The artist has also agreed to do an impromptu interview for us and we will be looking forward to sharing that with you.

But I'v never really entered a contest and im relatively new to DA,
I was thinking something along the lines of a photo manipulation, is use of stock images allowed as part of an entry?
I'l ask all the stock owners for permission and leave links in my artist comments, I will also use some of my own photos.
thanks x

Never take no for an answer and never give up. If you really believe in what you're doing and you're really keen, then you'll succeed - it's as simple as that.-Sir Peter Blake
